The Alaska Highway is not only the main arterial highway through the Yukon, but is also a commuter road for those working in the City of Whitehorse. Further too, the highway right-of-way holds a lot of utilities, powerlines and fiberoptic, City services including water and sewer... to name just a few. The right-of-way was also designated a long time after many businesses along the now-highway, were established, and this occupation of right-of-way is a common occurrence in Yukon!

HPW is always working with those occupying the right-of-way, to ensure that business remains uninterrupted and as unaffected as possible when faced with infrastructure upgrades.

    Can you supply the meaning of the terms in the key? SDE_STM_Mains?

    Thank you for your question, Sandy!

    The utilities and lines illustrated are publically available from the City of Whitehorse, so their coding can take some deciphering.

    "Wat_Main" = water main

    "Wat_hydrants" = water lines for fire hydrants

    "SAN_Mains" = sanitary mains

    "STM_Mains" = storm mains
